Naomi, you are tapping in to what connects us with physical and biological sustainance and nourisment. You are connecting the food that we eat to the flowers on your dishes, the trees and plants that bud to give us this source. You are bringing it to the table, celebration of the this cycle! Go go go!!!

Naomi, I was relieved when I saw the " towell roll prints" and they were connected by pattern. The image is new and relates the the rest of the work and is yours. Is the work for gallery or for people? Mike D.

I am not going to lie...your show surprised me. I hadn't talked to you about anything in so long so i wasn't sure how things were coming about. The paper towel rolls are amazing. I think Rain said you wanted to do a lot more and I am happy you didn't they look great.Your work does well as standing as a group. I know you placed them in certain groups but as a whole they all work together. However, I am confused of one form, it is a cup but it is not, it is huge. What is it it's purpose?

in response to eileen: doesn't anyone drink from tumblers anymore? personally i use them all the time...they're great for people who drink really fast...you don't have to refill as often. i think they would hold as much as a pint glass. i enjoy their size and how each set worked together with color and continuous pattern stretching across the row. woo hoo! yay for tumblers!

altering the forms a bit really made the original form tranform into something else, something more "you"... i think the only form that didn't get tranformed or altered in some way were the tumblers.

seeing your new set of patterns was great. they work together oh so well...pallete too! the paper towel prints were so much more successful than the last round. using the same imagery as on your dishes worked! nice to see you have some personal connection to the imagery/pattern that is printed...ahhh creating your own icongraphy of images!

the show looks so great! you should be proud of it!

Eileen, the tumblers are cast from an original plastic tumbler purchased from a store. It was even bigger before! but really these hold only 12-14 ounces. about as much as a can of soda.
Perhaps the opacity of them makes them appear larger. or the height of them on the wall.
Did you pick one up?
come to the studio for a tumbler of water. you will love to drink out of them, i swear!

ps thanks for the props on the paper towels.

Well Done!
The amount of work you chose to display was right for the space. Not too crowded, but with a nice amount of variation.
I was a bit concerned about the paper towels making it in time for the show. And I agree with the rest that they were a nice touch!! The patterns definately made more sense this time around and complimented your ceramic work nicely.

We can understand that these are objects to be placed on table tops, and the scale and shape the objects of debate most likey resemble tumblers, drinking glasses, cups. But, the proportions may suggest something else. Some research on the engineering of cups vs. vase are worth investment. In my own persuit I have realized that a vessel less than seven inches in height demands a base of two or two and a half inches for stablitiy on a table.

Overall I have to say your show was amazing. Your color choices and over all palette was the thing that struck me as the most surprising. The colors you picked definitely had a very nostalgic feel to them. I know my Grandmother had similarly pink colored dishes, but what made them fresh was the patterning and imagery. Anywho I think those large tumblers are perhaps the most intriguing form overall. They are kind of ambiguous as to their function, but that could be what is intriguing about them. Bravo.

ok so i was talking about the forms that you have now put plants in. It makes total sense now. It would have been nice to have plants in them at the show but the ambiguity is kind f intriguing as well. So meredith step off i liek tumblers ok!!! geez.

ahhhh! now i know what you're talking about eileen...

not the tumblers! so sorry.

now you understand my confusion with your statement. ha. i guess this is the kind of situation that can happen in a blog crit...

If the images had names or titles we would be able to have a better conversation.

the show was stunning! everything fell into place, patterns, printing methods, pedastal shapes - not too much, not too little. i really wanted to pick up the dishes and follow the surface around the whole of the form. i love that i can put food in them and the food then can have this wonderful aesthetic relationship with the form, the colors and the pattern, they can respond to each while not overwhelming either one.

i'm such a pot whore, i want to buy so many of them.

the paper towels complimented the dishes quite well. i do imagine using the two together. the paper towels bridge the gap between disposable and keeping/collecting/saving. the printing is intriguing and in places beautiful, while the material invokes crumpling, wiping and tossing. i would like to eat on these dishes while having this folded/crumpled napkin sitting next to the plate or in my lap. the whole package is hand crafted and marries very well. maybe you could sell rolls of paper towl along side the dishes!

certainly the show didn't need it but i still want to see your printed fabrics rolled into bolts and stacked one on the other.
