some new work...

I have been working on giving these objects a place to exist in the world, a container/display/presentation mechanism.

I have also been playing around with materials and process, starting to layer them more.. been having lots of fun with copper wire and patinas coated in wax over clay.... we'll see what happens!

Saccharine

Okay so I’ve been worried about shaders for the past few weeks. Yes, I said it Shader. Don’t worry “MS Word” doesn’t recognize this word either. I think I can safely describe it a virtual glaze, which one applies to a 3d computer model. So here are three images taken from my Digital Cinematography class project, all variations on falling sugar. Conceptually there is a progression from photorealism to a more “stylized” approach. Enjoy.

Naomi, you are tapping in to what connects us with physical and biological sustainance and nourisment. You are connecting the food that we eat to the flowers on your dishes, the trees and plants that bud to give us this source. You are bringing it to the table, celebration of the this cycle! Go go go!!!

My kinda cupcake.....

Uncle Owen tells you to forget it.

So cupcakes they say. Humph. Fine, I get it. So here is my cupcake story.

The scene is a child’s birthday party. The year is 1977, shortly after the epic release of Star Wars. The children are running around the house and yard making Tie Fighter and X-Wing sounds, mimicking the familiar crackle of light sabers striking one another. One small group is gliding around jerkily imitating Droids. In one word the scene is hopeful. The birthday boy has only one request, cupcakes that resemble the recognizable metal top of his favorite character R2D2. As the birthday song commences the feeling in the room is exuberance, and glee. As the birthday boy’s mother turns the corner, coming in to full view of the boy’s entire entourage, they all see the yellow and brown visage of a smiling teddy bear shaped sheet cake. Disappointing, cupcakes are for sucks.

luck?

so a few days ago i finished casting the work for my show.
ten minutes ago i was carting the very
last two pieces to bisque for my show down to the kiln room. and wouldn't you know it... i slipped on a push pin that was lying on the ground, whacked my ankle on the side of the cart something rotten . As i fell towards the floor in the cartoonish "i just stepped on a banana peel" style i caught my balance by crushing the very last piece i had cast. damn it all!

so i guess it is back to casting that one last piece.

ps. my computer just ate my website and also is playng hide and seek with practically all my files. i love life
